150th anniversary of Julio González in València
More plans that weekend
Join us to celebrate the anniversary of artist Julio González at the IVAM in València with exhibitions, literary talks and various activities throughout 2026.
This isn't one exhibition but a programme the IVAM spreads across 2026: shows, literary talks and one-off activities marking the Julio González anniversary. Because the calendar is published in instalments, if you're travelling for a specific item — a talk, a guided visit — check the museum's official agenda first. The programme runs through to 10 November.
Why the IVAM
The museum's full name is IVAM Centre Julio González, and not by accident: it holds a substantial part of the sculptor's work, so the anniversary is being marked in the building where his work already lived. If you don't know the museum, this is a reasonable excuse to go in — it's the city's modern and contemporary art museum and appears on any serious list of museums in València.
Getting there, and when
Guillem de Castro 118, on the edge of El Carme and under five minutes from the Torres de Quart. Túria is the easiest metro stop; a car in these streets is a liability. Being indoors and air-conditioned, it solves a hot afternoon, and it's among the first places to head for on a wet day. Check closing days before you go — most museums here shut one day a week, usually Monday.
Building a morning around it
The Centre del Carme is two streets away and the botanical garden sits on the other side of Guillem de Castro. Three stops on foot, no transport in between, all three with shade — the best combination in this corner of the city.
