34 Ilustres x 34 Ilustrados
The exhibition “34 Ilustres x 34 Ilustrados” shows Valencian sculptors reinterpreted by contemporary illustrators. It opens July 9 at 7 p.m. and runs until September 13, 2026.
The Centre del Carme brings together, in a single room, thirty-four illustrious Valencians — scientists, sculptors, musicians, writers — seen through the eyes of just as many contemporary illustrators. This isn't a conventional portrait exhibition: each piece crosses the craft of whoever sculpted or built something real with the free-ranging eye of whoever draws it today, so the same name can appear as a classic engraving in one room and as a comic or poster in the next.
What you'll find
Thirty-four name-and-illustrator pairings, with no set route: you can enter from any point in the room and leave having seen a different slice depending on where you start. The exhibition remains open until 13 September 2026, so there's plenty of scope to combine it with another plan around the Carmen the same day.
The Centre del Carme building
The venue is a former 13th-century convent converted into a contemporary art centre, with two cloisters that alone justify the visit even if the exhibition itself doesn't interest you. It's right in the heart of the Barrio del Carmen, so it's natural to pair it with a walk around the surrounding streets.
How to visit
Free entry, Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 21:00 (closed Mondays). It's at Carrer del Museu, 2, a short walk from the Torres de Quart or Plaza del Carmen. If you're after more free plans in the city, the guide to free museums in Valencia has the rest of the no-cost options.
