The Clay Walkers. Workshop with Cecilia Jurado Chueca
This workshop with Cecilia Jurado Chueca focuses on creating clay pieces to explore personal transformation and nomadic experiences. We'll look at the symbolic meaning of working with artistic materials.
This is a workshop, not a guided tour: you work with your hands and with clay on 15 September at the IVAM, led by the artist Cecilia Jurado Chueca. The premise is to use modelling as a way into thinking about journeys — personal and collective — and what it means to move from one place to another. The objects are the method, not the point.
Before you sign up
IVAM workshops normally have limited places and require booking in advance, and this listing carries neither a price nor a place count — both have to come from the museum's official page. When you book, ask two things the programme rarely states: whether the session runs in Valencian or in Spanish, and whether the pieces are fired afterwards and when you'd have to come back for them. Valencian is a co-official language here and cultural activities are often held in it.
What to bring
- Clothes you don't mind marking. Clay washes out later, but not during.
- Short nails and no rings — modelling with rings on is awkward and hard on the rings.
- A bag, in case you leave with an unfired piece.
Where it is, and what's next door
The IVAM stands at Guillem de Castro 118, on the edge of El Carme, under five minutes' walk from the Torres de Quart. Túria is the handiest metro stop; driving into this ring of streets is not worth the trouble. If the workshop takes your afternoon, the Centre del Carme is two streets away and the botanical garden is on the far side of Guillem de Castro, which fills the morning without planning. Both appear in the roundup of Valencia's museums.
