The Teatre Talia, in the historic centre of València, welcomes this Christmas «La Ternura», the romantic adventure comedy that Alfredo Sanzol wrote and directs, inspired by Shakespeare. The show runs from 16 December 2026 to 3 January 2027.
The plot is set in the 16th century: a queen with magic powers and her two daughters travel with the Spanish Armada towards arranged marriages they do not want. To escape that fate, they cause a shipwreck and end up settled on a desert island that already had residents: a woodcutter and his two sons, who had withdrawn there precisely to have no dealings with women. The meeting of the two groups triggers the series of mix-ups, hidden identities and crossed romances typical of Shakespearean comedy, with a tone of humour designed to keep the audience laughing throughout the show.
Times
Performances run Wednesday to Friday at 20:00, on Saturdays at 17:00 and 20:00, and on Sundays at 18:00.
How to get there and what to see in the area
The theatre is at Carrer Cavallers, 31, in the historic centre, so it is worth using the visit to wander through the surrounding streets. A step away is the Catedral de Santa María de València (La Seu), and those who want views can head to the Torre del Micalet. Also nearby is the Lonja de la Seda, with its Contract Hall of spiral columns.
For before or after the show, the neighbourhood offers classic stops such as La Pilareta, with its traditional zinc bar in El Carmen, or Café de las Horas, with its ornate Baroque decor in an alley near Plaza de la Virgen.
