More plans that weekend
The Alabama Gospel Choir brings their "Oh Happy Day!" show to Teatro Olympia on January 1 and 5, 2027. More than twenty artists will be on stage, performing spirituals and hymns that were important for civil rights, including famous songs like "Oh Happy Day!" and "Oh, Freedom." For this seventeenth tour of Spain, they've added touches of funk and blues to their traditional repertoire.
The listing shows two performances of this show at Teatro Olympia: Friday, January 1st, 2027 at 19:00, and Tuesday, January 5th, with no specific time given for this second performance. The Alabama Gospel Choir, founded in 1946 and with performances at Carnegie Hall in New York and the White House, performs with more than twenty artists on stage spirituals and hymns connected to civil rights — including «Oh Happy Day!» and «Oh, Freedom» — with touches of funk and blues in their traditional repertoire, on their seventeenth tour of Spain. Tickets start from €40; the listing does not detail the breakdown by price bracket or whether the two performances have the same programme.
Where Teatro Olympia is
The theatre has occupied, since 1915, a building constructed on the site of the former convent of San Gregorio, which takes up an entire block between Sant Vicent Màrtir, Músic Peydró, Garrigues and Mestre Clará streets. It was a cinema for over fifty years before being restored for the performing arts in 1984, and it is just two minutes on foot from plaza del Ayuntamiento, in the heart of Valencia.
If it coincides with your Epiphany visit
The second performance, on January 5th, falls on the eve of Epiphany: the guide Cabalgata de Reyes en Valencia has the route and time of the parade that same afternoon and evening, and Navidad en Valencia brings together the rest of the activities for these festivities.
